Spring 2019 I played Logainne Schwartzandgrubbenniere in this fantastic production at ACT of CT.

ACT is a brand new Equity theater (nominated for 14 Broadway World awards in 2019) that closed out its super successful first season with this hilarious William Finn musical directed by the amazing Michelle Tattenbaum, who has always adored this musical and brought new ideas to it that critics loved; music directed by Katya Stanislavskaya, music supervised by Bryan Perri and choreographed by Ilana Ransom-Toeplitz, who, with Michelle, gave this production a feel of perpetual motion and whimsy. Dan Levine is artistic director at ACT. This is a theater and a team that I hope to work with many more times. Production photos by Jeff Butchen.

secret supper: the musical

Spring Street Social Society produced this gorgeous, funny, spellbinding production as a dinner theatre experience for intrepid theatre-goers in East Harlem. The marketing behind the show was intentionally vague and secretive and it was a real treat to see surprised audiences every night as they navigated the site-specific wonders of this production. The lighting was completely out of this world, by Christopher Bowser. Directed by my longtime brilliant collaborator, Andrew Neisler. The super silly, delectable, haunting, harmonious music was from songwriting team, Jeanna Phillips and Alex Thrailkill. Taylor Adamson wrote the script and was out there dancing with us and the audience every night, when the play culminates in a dance party. I played a character named “Emma” ; ) , who is very extra and masquerades as an audience member during the pre-show, finding people and nervously talking their ear off. Then, poof, the show begins and the audience sees that I was not actually an audience member. I fooled a lot of (eventually delighted) people. Photos by Marcus Middleton.

POLITICAL SUBVERSITIES

The one and only Liz Swados started this one-of-a-kind political/musical/satirical performance group when I was still in college. I was part of the original cast as we found our way and established our tone. Many, many years and hundreds of Saturday night performances later, I still consider myself a cast member of “PoliSub”. Andrew Neisler and Annie Tippe co-directed and Ian Axness was our music director for several years, following Matt Vinson and Kris Kukul, who, during their respective tenures, shaped the group as well. We are not currently performing, but were active, with a rotating creative team and cast, for some 12 years, which were formative for me as a writer, performer, and comedian. During that time, we counted among our projects, venues and collaborators: Comedy Central, MSNBC, the Friar’s Club, UCB, The PIT, Everytown for Gun Safety, Littlefield, Joe’s Pub and Ars Nova.
